Museums in Yerevan: History Museum of Armenia
Why should you visit? Well, obviously, it’s always a good idea to get acquainted with the history of a country you’re visiting, even if you’ve googled a lot of info about your destination beforehand. Google is the online know-it-all, of course, but, hey, there is an offline world out there! Nothing can compare to the real encounter with ancient collection of relics, artifacts, numismatics and ethnography items. Museums in Yerevan: Matenadaran
Why should you visit? Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, or Matenadaran, is home to the world’s richest depositories of medieval manuscripts and books – an unrivalled collection of 17 000 manuscripts and 30 000 other documents on wide array of subjects. History geeks, rejoice!

Opening hours – 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
Museums in Yerevan: Cafesjian Center for the Arts (CCA)
Why should you visit? Located in the heart of Yerevan, “Cascade” park, CCA can offer you a diverse arts experience- guided tours inside the museum which features a large collection of modern art masterpieces, souvenir shopping in the museum store and encounters with modern art sculptures artfully “scattered” outside of the complex. Museums in Yerevan: Armenian Genocide Museum
Why should you visit? Well, honestly, this museum is not for faint-hearted. But it’s a must-visit since the subject of Genocide makes a central part in the history of Armenia. It features a large collection of documents on the first genocide of the 21st century (however, the most horrific images and documentaries are not exhibited for objective reasons).
Location –Tsitsernakaberd hill, Yerevan
Opening hours- 11.00-16.00, from Tuesday through Sunday. (The museum is closed on official holidays (December 30, 31, January 1-6, March 8, May 1, 9, 28, July 5, September 21; and extended hours on April 24).
Museums in Yerevan: Megerian Carpet Museum
Why should you visit? Museum is a must- visit for those who want to admire the state-of-the-art gems of Armenian craftsmanship and buy an authentic piece of Armenian tapestry as a souvenir to take home. More interested in the process of creation of the rugs? Book a tour and watch how these masterpieces of tapestry are created -from dyeing of the yarns by using vegetable dyes, up to weaving, shearing and finishing. Because it’s here that you will not only learn how the local brandy is made but also sample various types of delicious brandies, which were the favorite of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, by the way.
